Susan G. Komen for the Cure SWFL Affiliate has granted us $148,000 over the past seven years to assist uninsured/underserved breast cancer survivors who are suffering with lymphedema or who are at risk of developing lymphedema.  This race is one of the ways that Komen raises money for these grants.  75% of all money raised stays here in southwest Florida.  Please join our team in support of this effort.

To register – go to www.komenswfl.org – click on “Race for the Cure”.  Click “Register” and then click on “Join a Team”.

Enter “Team Lymphedema” in the Team Name box.  Click on “Join a Team” or “Donate”.  Follow the directions for “First Time Participant” – go to “Next Step” and complete the registration. For those donating, use your credit card to complete the transaction.

Those registering before February 18 will receive their race materials including a tee-shirt at their mailing address.  After that, materials will need to be picked up.

Please encourage others to register or donate.  Registration is $32 through Feb. 25.  We encourage donations – ask 10 people to donate $10 – it all adds up.

If your friends would like to donate by check – please ask that the check be made out to Susan G. Komen for the Cure SWFL.  Turn them in to the team leader on race day or send them to Lymphedema Resources, Inc. at P.O. Box 1115, Estero FL 33929 .

Plan to arrive at the site by 7 AM – parking and traffic will be a challenge.  The team will notify you of the meeting point for “Team Lymphedema” participants at a later date.

Please use the submission forms and personalize the pre-written letter by adding a few sentences.  Complete instructions are at the website and the entire process will only take you a couple of minutes.

The American Cancer Society, American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) have just endorsed the 2011 bill!

Together we can get this bill passed if each of us does our part by getting the support of our own members of Congress.

A specially designed program of gentle exercise for breast cancer survivors of all ages and at any stage of treatment and survivorship, promoting a safe return to physical activity and wellness through education, appropriate healthy exercise and emotional support.

Participants can expect improved range of motion, energy levels and self image upon completion of the six week course.  They
will receive education on safe activity levels and the risks, signs and symptoms of lymphedema.

This program is presented at No Charge by a grant from Susan G. Komen for the Cure Southwest Florida. Lymphedema Resources, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit with the mission of serving patients with lymphedema and educating those at risk of developing lymphedema.

Last year this race raised $821,000 that was spent in the five-county service area for your family and neighbors. This year the goal is $1,000,000.
